I am a
diabetic with ingrowing toe nails. My doctor has sent me to a podiatrist. Is
this OK?
No, it is
not ok. I have no idea what type of training these non-physicians have but from
my experience podiatrists are clueless. Many diabetics have lost their toes and
feet by going to some of these “wanna be” doctors. If you are a diabetic, you
should never let a non-physician muck around with your feet. The best advice is
to see a vascular surgeon, who will assess your blood supply first. It is vital
that no procedure is ever performed on the foot of a diabetic until the blood
supply has been verified. Please change your doctor because he/she does not
appear to know much about the diabetic foot.
