Acadryl is also known as Benadryl, sominex or unison. It is a first generation anti histamine used for treatment of allergies, hay fever and symptoms of the common cold.  While the drug may help reduce some symptoms of an allergy, it has way too many side effects. Most reputable doctors do not recommend acadryl for anything. There are far better and safer drugs available to treat allergies. Because it does cause sedation, some people do use it as a sleeping pill, but the benefits are not long lasting. I suggest you change your pharmacist because this idioit wants to dispense the supplies from the 1950s-f...ing arsehole.

St John Wort

I have depression but cannot afford an antidepressant. Is there something over the counter i can take?

The herbal product ST john wort is the only one i can think off. Speak to your doctor and see if he/she is wiling to give you some samples of an antidepressant. No there is nothing else. All antidepressants cause weight gain. The fact is that there is no drug without adverse effects. You have to weigh the benefits versus the side effects. Depression is a complex life long illness and if a medication works, i would recommend staying on it.

Withdrawal and antidepressants

Is withdrawal a possibility with antidepressants?

Yes, almost any drug that works on the brain can cause withdrawal symptoms if you stop them abruptly. This is no big deal- if you want to discontinue a drug, just taper it off slowly over several weeks. Cut the dose by a half or a quarter each week. Withdrawal symptoms tend to occur if you suddenly stop taking an antidepressant, anti anxiety drugs, or sedatives. 

I am not sure why this is a big deal with patients- if you want to stop the drug, just taper it gradually over a few weeks and you will avoid the withdrawal symptoms. I am not sure why some patients feel that they have to stop the drug instantly!!!!

Because the drug affects absorption of fats, it is possible that you can develop deficiency of fat-soluble vitamins like A, D, E and K. Xenical does not affect the water-soluble vitamins. In general, the body has large stores of fat-soluble vitamins and deficiencies are rare but can occur if you stay on the drug for a long time. To ensure you do not develop a deficiency of fat soluble vitamins, make sure you ask your doctor what you should eat and the need to take supplements.

Orlistat for weight loss

How long can one take orlistat for weight loss?

I think you can take it for 9-12 months without any hassles. However, you should be monitored by a physician while on this medication. Taking the pill beyond two years is not recommended.  This is assuming that you are losing weight. If you have not lost any weight on this pill by 2-3 months, I doubt you will lose any more by staying longer on the pill.

Yes, the FDA ensures that the generic has the same concentration and formula. Manufacturers are not allowed to make an inferior product. The generic paxil will work the same, and cost less. I can tell your right now that there is zero correlation between a deviated septum and nasal congestion. Even if you correct the nasal septum, there is no guarantee that the nasal congestion will be cured. Before you spend 1000s of dollars on this expensive surgery, I recommended you speak to other people who have had the surgery for the same reason.

For lice control, you need to do two things. Treat the lice and also decontaminate your environment. The agent of choice is benzyl alcohol. You apply it for 10 mins and repeat the treatment in 7 days. The alcohol kills the lice rapidly. At the same time, you must remove all nits from the hair with a fine tooth comb. All other items like towel; bedding and clothing must be thoroughly washed. There are some people who recommend the use of mayonnaise, olive oil, vinegar and submersion in water. I am not sure if these treatments work, but you can try them out. I can sure you that applying mayonnaise onto your scalp is going to be a real messy affair.

Once you have treated your head lice, clean up your home. This means washing everything in the home with very hot water. Lice are durable creatures and need extremes of heat to kill them.

Onglyza for diabetes

No onglyza is a relatively new drug for treatment of diabetes and works by stimulation of the pancreas to make insulin; it is a very expensive product and only effective of mild diabetes. I think it is a rip off medication. If you can’t afford it, ask your doctor for metformin, which is very cheap and safe. The last few years, many doctors have started to prescribe onglyza for no other reason than the fact that it is new. It is no more effective than metformin and costs a fortune. Not only do you need a change in your medication, you need to change your doctor to someone who cares about you rather than the pharmaceutical reps.

Personally, I do not recommend this medication to my patients as I think the pharmaceutical companies are scamming patients with expensive products that are no better than metformin.

Most spas and resorts have people who perform this therapy; you will be booked for a minimum of 6-12 sessions over a period of 4-6 weeks. Even if you undergo 10, 000 sessions- all you will lose is your money.

There is ZERO proof that this crap works. After the treatment, you will be told to exercise and wear compression stockings. So if the thing works, why do all this extra stuff? Therefore, my best advice is to keep away from this bogus therapy. Save your hard-earned money for something more worthwhile.

There are 100s of online reviews about this treatment and everyone has the same story-they were scammed. AWT is $ 500 per session and the entire program costs thousands of dollars. In today’s difficult economic times, if you want to lose cellulite, walk more and eat less.
