Birth control pill and weight gain

I was recently started on mirena for contraception and my body weight has increase. Is this related?

First, the facts- all hormones will increase weight and oral contraceptive pills are no different. The manufacturers and some doctors deny this because they have a vested interest in these products. The weight gain is usually around the thigh and buttock but can be significant. The only way round this is to use another means of contractions. In many cases, even with exercise and a change in diet, birth control pills continue to increase weight. Talk to your doctor before you decide to quit this product. On the plus side, the pill will make your skin soft and smooth.
