Januvia is relatively new medication for type 2 diabetes. It works well for mild diabetes but is prohibitively expensive. There is no generic version. I am not too keen to start patients on januvia. If you want to save money with an effective drug that has minimal side effects, go with metformin. It is cheap and works great. It has been around for decades. Physicians usually prescribe Januvia to please the drug reps, who in return provide gifts, trips and sometimes hanky panky.
