Neurontin for fibromyalgia

I have had fibromyalgia for many years and recently my doctor gave me neurontin. Is this medication effective?

Doctors have been prescribing neurontin for almost every patient who walks into their clinic. As far as fibromyalgia is concerned, only one study has shown that the drug improved pain, and provides better sleep. Gabapentin has never officially been approved for treatment of fibromyalgia. What all consumers have to understand is that in many previous studies, the pharmaceutical company hid the negative effects of the drug and amplified the positive effects. Overall, neurontin is a crappy, overly prescribed, very expensive and does jack shit. A better choice of drug for fibromyalgia is Lyrica.
