Paxil forever!

How long can I take paxil?

Most of the antidepressants are relatively safe. If the medication is reversing your depression and you feel fine, you should stay on it. In most cases, doctors assess the patient every 12-24 months and slightly taper the dose.

Unfortunately, tapering the dose often leads to return of depressive symptoms. There are many patients who have been on antidepressants for 10-15 years. The fact is that there is no drug without adverse effects. You have to weigh the benefits versus the side effects. Depression is a complex life long illness and if a medication works, i would recommend staying on it.
